Photo 21 May Food on the Galapagos is great but I hit a wall and could not bear to eat another meal served with two cups of rice so I went to the burger cart at the end of my street. I turned down the bacon and egg for the top of my burger, pounced on the jalapeño marmalade and baggie of Sprite. http://bit.ly/11WTEWp

Photo 21 May I don’t remember the last time I was so excited to see spinach. Love Ecuadorian food but it’s a lot of meat, potatoes and rice without anything green. It’s not easy to get here as the islands aren’t the best for growing greens so they have to bring it over from the mainland. http://bit.ly/17ZiWV9

Photo 19 May Holy mother of tocina, tonight I discovered a stall outside the market that serves lechon every Sunday, complete with mote, llapingachos (mashed potato and cheese balls seared on high heat) Subject and delicious crispy pork skin. You can bet I’ll be here every Sunday evening. http://bit.ly/16BYMkn

Photo 19 May When people say they are jealous of me being in the Galapagos I don’t think they imagine me sitting at my laptop for two days with a tea cup and box of cheap red wine trying to teach myself video to share how amazing the Galapagos would be for other people. http://bit.ly/12NcsTD

Photo 18 May Last time I was in Ecuador I became obsessed with homemade aji and was so upset I couldn’t find tomate de árbol as it is the ingredient that makes Ecuadorian hot sauce superior to every other kind, including sriracha (gasp I know). Even though it isn’t homemade I will be bringing a year’s worth of this bottled aji home with me. http://bit.ly/10cCIIF

Photo 17 May Puerto Ayora in the #Galapagos is small but there is still a thriving street food scene. Tonight I ordered grilled fish with salad, rice, beans and passion fruit juice. Per usual the salad was miniscule but the quantity of rice and beans warranted a plate of its own. But this does not surprise me. I’m always prepared with a Tupperware container and I now have tomorrow’s breakfast. http://bit.ly/17HSUWb

Photo 17 May Want pescado encocado (fish in coconut sauce)? First step is to find a captain of a ship in the Galapagos who will climb a tree to get a coconut and then split it open with a dull machete. This is not an easy recipe. http://bit.ly/14xV1Ye

Photo 15 May Oh the things that crawl my walls in my Galapagos house. For some reason I don’t mind cockroaches on the floor but on the wall grosses me out. Although I welcome the Galapagos lava lizard on the right as it eats bugs but sadly not big enough to eat cockroaches. http://bit.ly/17wx5sy

Photo 14 May While I don’t usually eat deep fried food I can’t pass up empanadas de viento. Served in the afternoon the name literally means wind empanadas because they are full of air and in this case filled with a bit of queso for only sixty cents. http://bit.ly/17rWtzM
